Life Groups

Lakeview is made up of ordinary people learning to grow in relationship with our extraordinary God! That's why we encourage all people, no matter where they are in their spiritual journey, to join a Life Group.

Doing Life Together

For spiritual growth to happen, we all need to:

  • Be intentional in spending time with God in Word and Prayer
  • Be intentional in supporting and being supported in our spiritual growth

why join a life group?

Life Groups are at the heart of who we are at Lakeview. They are intentional gatherings of 6-12 people and meet at a host home each week. The group meets every week to open up the Bible and see how Godā€™s Word speaks and intersects with the sermon message and how it applies to everyday issues we all encounter. This model of spiritual growth is taken from the life of Jesus and has been used since the beginning of the church.

We all need toĀ ā€œmeet together consistentlyā€Ā (Hebrews 10:25) so we can be encouraged, supported and guided in our life journey.Ā

A Closer Look At Life Groups

Not all groups are exactly the same. Ā But here's a quick gist of a typical Life Group night... You may also notice the "ish" factor. Ā This is a general idea of how the time might go.

Everyone arrives and hangs out. It’s a great time to catch up and to see how everyone’s been since the previous meeting. Someone brings a snack and this ends up being a time to nosh on something yummy and to chat.

Next, everyone finds a seat. The group leader might open in prayer, share an announcement if there is one, or they might start with an ice-breaker question to help everyone get to know each other.

Ā

Then it’s time to delve into the “Intersect” questions. Each week there is a set of notes that go along with that Sunday’s message. The first page is “fill-in-the-blank” notes. No need to overthink the fill-ins, they are already filled in online, and shown during the message. The “Intersect” questions are questions to ponder after hearing the message and before we meet as a group. They are designed to help us ponder how to “intersect” what we’ve learned in the message with our everyday lives. The idea is not to just hear the message one time but to allow it to help us grow in our understanding of who God is and how we are called to respond. During this time in our Life Groups we talk, encourage, and sometimes grapple together with these questions.

Around 8:00 most groups start to transition into two groups… guys and gals. We separate for a time of more chatting and to pray for each other.Ā The night officially ends around 8:30ish… but often we still haven’t chatted enough. So the night usually ends with eating the last few crumbs and connecting some more.
